The British Council in partnership with the "PASHA Bank" OJSC is pleased to announce the winners of the Essay Competition which were conducted on April - May 2012. The aim of the project was to address the issues of economic growth, reforms and development and encourage youth to become more active agents for the future development. The competition attracted 92 submissions in English covering the following themes:
• "Future of the World - Economic Development Versus Economic Security",
• "Three Top World Challenges Today",
• "Think Globally, Act Locally - Youth Participation in Azerbaijan Economic Development".


The Jury panel shortlisted 34 essays on the basis of originality/creativity of thought, structure and coherence of the arguments, as well as relevance to one of the topics of the competition. All 34 students were interviewed and only seven were selected for the final interview stage.

Essay Competition winners:
Firs place winners are Miriyeva Gunay, Azerbaijan State Economic University and Murad Hamidov, Azerbaijan State Economic University. They will attend the King's College London Summer School in July - August 2012. According to 2011/2012 QS international world rankings (http://www.topuniversities.com/) King's College London is one of the top 30 universities in the world.

Second place winner is Babirzada Jeyhun, Azerbaijan State Economic University and the second place prize is LapTop.

Third place winner is Jafarova Nigar, Azerbaijan State Economic University and the third place prize is IPad.

Below participants will receive consolation prizes from the British Council and Pasha Bank:

The British Council is honored to invite you to the official awards ceremony that will take place on 21 June 2012 at 11:00 in Park Inn Hotel Nasimi room. The Director of the British Council Azerbaijan and the official representatives of the Pasha Bank will award prizes to the winners.
